The mission of Merritt Mental Health is to provide the best guidance and assistance possible to patients and family members facing mental health or substance use challenges. For some, consultation with us serves as a “starting point” for understanding treatment options and making informed decisions. For others, we are a welcome place to slow down, look at what has been done in the past, and determine together what is the “best next step” to take towards health and well-being.
Uniquely, Merritt Mental Health offers comprehensive services to family members, including Health Services Consultations, Referrals, Comprehensive Care Navigation, and Family Member Counseling. We help you to figure out the best next step, as well as the best resources and referrals, for your loved one.
Two Types of Consultations
There are two types of consultations available. One is the traditional Clinical Consultation, in which Dr. Merritt meets with the patient in person to provide assessment, diagnosis, and treatment recommendations.
The second type of consultation with Dr. Merritt is a Health Services Consultation, which may be conducted in person or by phone. This service is designed for patients or family members who have questions about the best treatment pathways for specific conditions and circumstances. This consultation type is ideal for clients seeking decision-making advice and assistance in sorting through treatment options to determine the best next step for them.
Comprehensive Care Navigation
Another service available at Merritt Mental Health is Comprehensive Care Navigation. Following initial consultation, patients and family members work one-on-one with Dr. Merritt and the care navigator to identify the best doctors, therapists, or programs for them. Care Navigation is designed to be maximally flexible in order to meet your mental health services needs, whatever they are.
Parent & Other Family Member Counseling
These are one-on-one sessions with Dr. Merritt focussing on 1) effective decision-making and 2) effective communication with a loved one who is suffering. The aim of the sessions is to improve the quality of relationships, create healthy boundaries, and motivate your loved one to pursue the best treatment possible.
